AFTER SIX TRIES AND NARY AN OSCAR, AL PACINO LOOKS ready to break his losing streak. For starters, this year he copped two nominations—for Best Actor, in Scent of a Woman, and for Best Supporting Actor, in Glengarry Glen Ross. Another good omen: the American Museum of the Moving Image’s Feb. 20 tribute to Pacino at New York City’s Waldorf-Astoria hotel. By evening’s end even the perennial also-ran was sensing his luck had changed. Citing tabloid reports of his supposedly high sex drive, Pacino said he’d asked a friend in amazement where such stories came from. The friend’s answer: “Al, what can I tell you? It’s your year, kid.”
