Why Julia Louis-Dreyfus Should Win the Emmy for Veep

Posted on

The character of Selina Meyer on HBO’s Veep is one of the most densely and skillfully written in all of television right now, and star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, nominated for outstanding actress in a comedy series, is giving a virtuoso performance in the role: petty, egomaniacal, shallow and mean.

Would you prefer Martin Sheen?

She also has a strange genius for shooting herself in the foot. Selina wearing squeaky shoes and cautiously walking down a looooooong White House corridor to make her first presidential address was a great piece of physical comedy.

Besides, Louis-Dreyfus, 53, has already won twice for Veep – she’s got that Bryan Cranston Emmy mojo going.

The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards air Monday on NBC at 8 p.m. ET
