After a splashy opening battle round that advanced Broadway vet Frenchie Davis, cowboy Patrick Thomas, athlete Casey Weston and soul singer Vicci Martinez to the live competition, The Voice continued with team selection Tuesday night.

To start the show, Cee Lo Green delighted in pairing fellow Texans Tje Austin and Nakia in singing “Closer.” Not only did the two have strong voices, but they also both had on their swagger – Nakia sported white-rimmed shades to match up against Green’s red frames during practice, and Austin’s ‘fro made Adam Levine quip, “So much hair flyin’ around” during the battle.

Green said afterward, “You guys both represent me and [you are] extensions of my good taste,” but he ultimately chose blues singer Nakia.

In the second battle, the duo of Josh and Nicole, known as Elenowen, went up against father of six Jared Blake. Reba McEntire advised Blake to “fight for that attention,” knowing the difficulty in taking on two other people singing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” He obviously listened, as Blake Shelton selected him to move on.

Next, Adam Levine had to choose from Javier Colon and Angela Wolff. Levine thought “Stand By Me” would suit Wolff’s voice and while practicing, he told Colon to scale back his runs. But during the battle, Colon’s voice distracted Shelton from Wolff’s beauty. Colon seemed to be the favorite among the coaches, and ultimately Levine’s as well.

In the last round, Christina Aguilera relished in a diva-off between rocker Beverly McClellan and soulful high rise window cleaner Justin Grennan, and assigned them The Who’s “Baba O’Riley.” Grennan impressed Aguilera by mastering a song he didn’t know, but McClellan’s intensity brought down the house.

Aguilera chose McClellan but not before announcing to her team, “Thank you for making my coaches extremely jealous!”
