Kate is setting some boundaries with Toby in this week’s episode of This Is Us.
In a PEOPLE exclusive sneak peek at Tuesday’s show, Kate (Chrissy Metz) brings Toby (Chris Sullivan) breakfast in bed, but when he asks to hang out with her later in the day, she puts on the breaks.
“Breakfast in bed! What did I do to deserve this?” Toby asks.
“I don’t know. You’ve done a lot of really nice things for me, so I wanted to return the favor,” she tells her beau.
Toby proceeds to ask Kate if she will be joining him in eating the “nonsense made up food” she set before him, but she denies, explaining that it is weigh-in day at their meeting later in the day.
“Hey, what do you want to do after the meeting?” Toby asks her. “I was thinking miniature golf.”
But although things seems to be progressing in the couple’s relationship, Kate isn’t allowing Toby to join her in one of her fall “rituals,” a.k.a. watching the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.
Although Toby offers to watch the game with her, she adamantly declines. “Thanks, but I’m good,” she tells him.
“It’s my thing,” she continues. “I have a little ritual, you know? It’s my thing.”
After attempting to convince her another time to allow him to join her on the couch for the NFL game, she declines again: “Toby, this is something that I do alone, k?”
This is Us airs Tuesdays (9 p.m. ET) on NBC.
