Through its first season, the CW’s Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries stuck true to its name, keeping its focus on AnnaSophia Robb’s teenage Carrie Bradshaw and her pre-Sarah Jessica Parker adventures in the go-go world of 1980s NYC. This season, though, the show began exploring the wider SATC universe, bringing in Lindsey Gort to play a young (but hardly innocent) version of Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones.
With half of the famous foursome already cast, when will The Carrie Diaries get around to filling out the rest of the gang? Executive producer Amy B. Harris tells E! Online that Charlotte and Miranda are still in high school in the current timeline, but there are plans to introduce the pair later in the series.
With that in mind, it’s time to take part in every television obsessive’s most beloved hobby: fan casting. Which young actresses should play Miranda and Charlotte in The Carrie Diaries? Check out our picks below, along with some choices for the rest of the SATC ensemble.
CHARLOTTE YORK: VICTORIA JUSTICE
In the world of Sex and the City, prim and proper Charlotte was a popular, multi-talented teenager. If she can find the time between Victorious episodes, Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice, herself a singing, dancing polymath, would be perfect for the role made famous by Kristin Davis.
Honorable Mentions: Ashley Rickards (Awkward.), Erin Sanders (Big Time Rush)
MIRANDA HOBBES: TAISSA FARMIGA
Whip-smart and pragmatic, Miranda isn’t a role for a typical starlet. Which is why we think the oddball charisma of American Horror Story‘s Taissa Farmiga would be a perfect fit. The fact that she’s a borderline ginger just like Cynthia Nixon helps, too.
Honorable Mentions: Sarah Ramos (Parenthood), Molly Quinn (Castle)
MR. BIG: MARTEN WEINER
In the original Sex and the City, Carrie didn’t meet Big until the series’ first episode. But as long as we’re here, why not cast Mad Men‘s Marten Weiner, who is spitting image of a young Chris Noth, in the role? Heck, they could do a How I Met Your Mother thing where he and Carrie keep almost bumping into each other.
STANFORD BLATCH: PAUL IACONO
The revelation that Stanford was roommates with Bennett was a major season-one cliffhanger for The Carrie Diaries, but our favorite future GBF has yet to make an appearance on the series. When he does, we suggest casting The Hard Times of RJ Berger‘s Paul Iacono, an openly gay actor who can pull off the round-glasses look like a pro.
SMITH JERROD: KINGSTON ROSSDALE
OK, so Samantha’s paramour Smith Jarrod would have been a small child during the 1980s. How about casting an actual child, such as Gwen Stefani‘s son Kingston Rossdale? If Samantha ended up babysitting him, we might actually die.
