In a sneak peek at next Monday’s episode, JoJo Fletcher and the former NFL pro – who scored the First Impression Rose on night one – get to enjoy some quality one-on-one time, and things get pretty intense.
“I think I’ve been very good at positioning myself to not get my heart broken, but I have to be vulnerable in order for it to work – in order to fall in love,” Rodgers, 27, says in a confessional.
Sitting alone with Fletcher, 25, he then opens up about his past relationship – and how he’s changed.
“So I had a serious girlfriend a few years ago, so I think I made a lot of mistakes as far as putting things ahead of that relationship, and insecurities, and who I was and where my career was at and where I thought I should be and the person I thought I should be,” says Rodgers. “And so that affected a lot, the person I was in that relationship.”
Rodgers explains that he’s been “really careful in the past couple of years,” adding that he’s finding himself being careful with Fletcher, too.
She adds, “So I get if that’s how you are, but I’m so open and excited about you that I want to start developing our relationship.”
Rodgers goes on to reveal that he’s having some pretty strong feelings also.
“It means a lot to me to be in a situation where I’m like, so attracted to you and when I’m around you I have a feeling I haven’t had in a really long time,” he says, as Fletcher rests her head on his shoulder affectionately. “And it’s scary but it’s also the best thing that I wake up to every morning.”
“Knowing how important just the word ‘love’ is to me – I’ve said that to one person in my entire life outside of my family,” he adds.
But as it turns out, that’s not the first time fans might have heard about Rodgers’ dating history – after the season premiere, a woman named Brittany Farrar, who says she is Rodgers’ ex-girlfriend, slammed the hunky athlete on Instagram and implied he was unfaithful to her.
“Riding the bench doesn’t get in the way of a relationship, but cheating does,” she wrote, tagging Rodgers in the post. “#yourpitchisntperfect #alwayswantedtobefamous #dreamscometrue #tuneinnextweekformoreBS.”
And so the plot thickens.
The Bachelorette airs this Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, followed by an all-new episode airing Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
