It’s been one thing after the other for Sister Wives star Meri Brown.
Just a week after the first wife of polygamist patriarch Kody Brown opened up to PEOPLE about leading an embarrassing online relationship with someone she believed to be a businessman – in truth, the person turned out to be a woman, a situation that falls under the modern social media phenomenon of “catfishing” – it’s now being revealed that she also faced a scary medical situation recently.
In the above exclusive clip of the show’s upcoming episode, Meri, 44, struggles to find out why she’s suffering from involuntary and rapid weight loss.
“Within about a 6 week period I dropped 30 pounds, just really fast,” Meri says in the clip. “Of course I’m not going to complain about that, but it does tell me something’s wrong.”
After seeing a doctor and undergoing a CAT scan, Meri isn’t able to get an answer for her persistent stomach pain and weight loss. “It’s really frustrating,” she says, “because I don’t know why I’m having these issues.”
It’s not until she sees her OB/GYN, Dr. Guita Tabassi, that Meri hears the possible bad news. “There’s a little bit of a thickening of your cervix,” Tabassi tells the mother of one. “We can’t completely exclude cervical carcinoma [cervical cancer]”.
The scare comes on the heels of Meri divorcing Kody to allow for him to marry fourth wife Robyn and legally adopt her three children, which Meri told PEOPLE was “an emotional and vulnerable time earlier this year.”
