The swiveling chairs on The Voice saw some new occupants this season.
Newbie coaches Shakira and Usher debuted this fourth season and have generally earned rave reviews for their enthusiasm and coaching styles. The pair replaced original coaches Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, who both took time off to work on other projects, and currently sit alongside veteran coaches – and sweetly snarky best buds – Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.
But Green and a recently slimmed down Aguilera vowed they would return to the popular singing competition, and NBC announced that the original four coaches will indeed be back in their chairs when season 5 debuts in September.
But fear not Usher and Shakira fans, the duo will return for season 6 of the show, which will debut after the Winter Olympics next year, while Green and Aguilera take another break.
“I am so thrilled that our Voice family has grown from four coaches to six,” executive producer Mark Burnett said, told EW.com. “The coaching panel of Christina, Cee Lo, Adam and Blake was at the heart of this show in its first three seasons and we are so lucky to have found equal success with Shakira and Usher in season four.”
