Does absence actually make the heart go fonder? Or just yonder?

That seems to be the question that the new FYI reality series Seven Year Switch seeks to answer. The show features four couples, each of whom are at a crossroads in their relationship and temporarily split up – living with and sleeping with a new partner.

At the end of the show, the couples will reunite and decided mutually if they should divorce or remain married.

“We’re doing this for us,” says one woman in the trailer to her visibly distraught husband. “And we’re going to grow. And we’re going to break the pattern. And we’re going to be able to start fresh.”

The series comes from Kinetic Content, the production company responsible for FYI’s other “social experiment” reality series, Married at First Sight, which airs on A&E.

Seven Year Switch premieres July 7 at 9 p.m. ET on FYI.
