Watch Seth Meyers Use Jimmy Fallon's 'Thank You' Skit During Late Night Debut

Seth Meyers started out his Late Night tenure by using one of his predecessor’s skits: Jimmy Fallon‘s “Thank You Notes” routine.

“Thank you, Jimmy Fallon, for taking over The Tonight Show at 11:30 so I could take over Late Night at 12:30,” Meyers said, as the skit’s trademark soft piano music played. “I promise to treat it with respect and dignity.”

Critics – including PEOPLE’s – weren’t exactly effusive in their praise for Meyers’s debut. But few seemed to actually dislike Meyers’s take on the show, simply noting that he presents a different energy than Fallon.

As Time‘s critic put it, “If Jimmy Fallon was (and is) your guitar-playing camp counselor, Seth Meyers is a little more like your wisecracking grad-student T.A.”
