The Election Results Are In! Check Out the Brand New Scandal Season 6 Trailer

Updated

Gladiators, the wait is almost over.

On Thursday, ABC announced the Jan. 19 premiere date for Scandal season 6 — and released a brand new trailer that’s sure to get pulses racing for fans.

The trailer picks up right where season 5 left off: with the announcement of presidential nominees Mellie Grant (Bellamy Youngand Frankie Vargas’ (Ricardo Chavira) vice presidential running mates — Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) and Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry), respectively.

Now the election results are in — and fans can look forward to Mellie’s shocked reaction when she finds out about Cyrus’ new position while he campaigns with Vargas.

Of course, there’s also plenty of tension between Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and Fitz (Tony Goldwyn).

“In just the first 10 minutes alone,” promises the trailer, “you’re not going to know what hit you,” — and between shots of Olivia racing down a hospital hallway and a house exploding in front of Huck (Guillermo Díaz) and Quinn (Katie Lowes), that’s certainly no understatement.

The biggest twist, however, comes right at the end.

“I am done running for president,” Mellie says to Olivia.

“Well, I’m not,” responds Olivia.

Scandal season 6 premieres Jan. 19 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
