Downton Abbey Wins the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series

Posted on

The 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards handed out top TV honors to Downton Abbey on Saturday night.

The award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series was presented by Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Keegan-Michael Key.

Lesley Nicol, who plays the fictional estate’s cook Mrs. Patmore, said, “To be nominated in this category is mind blowing for us,” because the British show was “up against your TV royalty.”

Nicol thanked show creator Julian Fellowes, who she said “wrote every single word of this. What an amazing writer.”

Added Nicol: “And as again we all know, if we don’t have a good script, we’re screwed, aren’t we?”

Downton Abbey was up against Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards and Mad Men.

The 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards aired live on TNT and TBS.
