As 14 new contestants rev up their engines for Monday’s season 6 premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race – and each with charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent – a few stood out from the pack at the premiere party in New York City.
Here are the ones to watch.
Milk does a body good – in 6-inch heels, she stands nearly 7′ tall, perfect for her high-fashion sensibility. Her bold look at the premiere party – big hair, even bigger dress – was inspired by Alexander McQueen, but this queen says she is always altering her look.
Bianca Del Rio
Del Rio jokes that she’s “a mix between Joan Crawford and Bozo the Clown,” but her sewing skills are no laughing matter. For the premiere party performance, Del Rio sewed a gown onstage in the time it took to play a single song.
Estranja admits to having used legalized marijuana to help with a number of life-long ailments. But now, “I’m no longer on any pharmaceuticals,” she tells PEOPLE. Along with having an on-trend name, her fashions are equally up-to-date – her bold dress for the premiere party was designed by Project Runway alum Mondo Guerra.
In a single word, Carrion is “gorgeous.” Like Nina Flowers, Alexis Mateo, Yara Sofia and Jessica Wild before her, she emerges from the energetic drag community in Puerto Rico, which focuses on pageants. But Carrion, an art student, says she’s “not a pageant girl” and would like to break away from that style.
Believing that preparation is the key to success, Gunn arrived at the competition with high-end costumes ready to go. (If the bejeweled gladiator ensemble she wore to the party is any indication, they will be fabulous.) Gunn admitted she didn’t get as much time to get ready for the Drag Race runways as she would’ve liked, but said that working with time constraints is part of the competition, “Drag Race is a race!” she said.
They will join weekly judges Michelle Visage and Santino Rice during the series to help decide America’s Next Drag Superstar.
RuPaul’s Drag Race premieres Feb. 24 at 9 p.m. ET on Logo TV.
