While her fellow Dancing with the Stars contestants were sad to see an injured Misty May-Treanor leave the competition, one couple got an unexpected reprieve because of it.

On Tuesday’s Results show, it was revealed that Rocco DiSpirito and his partner Karina Smirnoff would have been voted off the show if the volleyball star hadn’t been forced to withdraw from the competition Monday with a torn Achilles tendon.

The announcement came as a surprise to the four remaining couples awaiting their fate —Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer, Susan Lucci and Tony Dovolani, Julianne Hough and Cody Linley and DiSpirito and Smirnoff.

But that sigh of relief may be short-lived. Host Tom Bergeron then announced another surprise: the judges’ scores and the viewers’ votes from this week will be added to the scores and votes the couples will receive next week.

What that means for DiSpirito and Smirnoff, who came in second to last with a 20 out of 30 for their waltz and received the fewest number of viewer votes? They’ll truly be dancing to stay alive next week.

Tell us: Was it fair that no couple was sent home last night? And should this week’s scores be carried over to next week’s dance?
