Teresa Giudice is used to a certain level of scrutiny. But the The Real Housewives of New Jersey star has experienced a new loss of privacy while serving a nearly year-long sentence in federal prison for fraud.
She revealed on Sunday’s episode of Teresa Checks In, the second in a three-part RHONJ special, that she had been “shaken down” by officials in prison, who believed that she was tweeting with an outlawed cell phone.
“I never thought my wife would be getting the shake down,” her husband, Joe, told the camera. “That definitely makes me upset, thinking my poor wife has to go through this bulls— in there.”
“God they watch every little thing, huh?” he added.
Teresa was adamant when telling her husband not to let Gia know, because “she didn’t do anything wrong,” she said. “She did what I told her.”
Teresa’s prison stay has been previously described by her husband as a “low-budget spa,” but family attorney James J. Leonard Jr. has told the cameras, “This is not a country club.”
“They’re so invading, like you have to bend down and cough,” Teresa told her husband.
In the same episode, she also told him how she had seen a plane flying really low over her prison, circling several times, and how “everyone keeps warning me not to go outside.”
The plane was trying to take her picture, she claimed, which is why she decided to release her own photo from behind bars.
Teresa’s incarceration has been otherwise less dramatic: She took a job in the kitchen and teaches exercise classes; and on Sunday, Leonard said that she is doing yoga and meditation.
“She’s really trying to emerge more balanced,” he said.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Teresa Checks In airs Sundays at 8 p.m. (ET) on Bravo.
