As Teresa and Joe Giudice‘s financial problems continue to play out in courtrooms and auction houses, on television the over-the-top duo is still living large.

Monday’s episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey found them celebrating their 10th anniversary in lavish style. From a helicopter ride over Manhattan, to a private dinner in a ritzy hotel suite, to a massive, yellow diamond ring he gave her, Joe seemingly spared no expense to please his wife, who insisted on a sizable gift. The consequences for not delivering? She d withhold sex for a month.

And what a canny set-up that the couple were playing Monopoly with their daughters in the scenes leading up to the big anniversary surprise. Also, what to make of Joe’s discussion with Jacqueline‘s hubby, Chris, that money wasn’t flowing like it once did?

In other events, Caroline‘s son, Albie, still in flux with his law school studies, joined the police academy. Ashley was still refusing to accept responsibility – or the possible legal consequences – for that hair-pulling incident. And Danielle threw a decadent sweet 16 party for daughter Christine – which benefited charity.

It was nice, for a change, to see Danielle dialing down the drama. She was even cordial to her ex-husband, Tom, who appeared at the bash with his new wife. She was also supportive, if not a bit stage mom-ish, as her daughter Jillian prepared to perform songs for the crowd. (Next week, however, seems to be drama-heavy, with a explosive confrontation between Kim G. and Danielle.)

Speaking of sweet, how sweet was it to see Jillian get up on stage?

But despite the episode’s rather loving streak, it was tough to shake the image of Joe and Teresa, flying around on a helicopter, eating a steak dinner, drinking wine and delighting in jewelry knowing that in October, the pair filed for bankruptcy. –Brian Orloff
