Pretty Little Liars might not return to our television screens until April of 2017, but for those involved in the creation of the show, the story has come to an end. Wednesday marks the final day of shooting for the crew, and seven years of memories has the entire cast feeling sentimental.
All of the Liars — Sasha Pieterse, Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, and Troian Bellisario — have taken to social media to prepare for their final day inhabiting the lives of the Rosewood favorites. Bellisario even went so far as to post an email that her fiancé, Patrick J. Adams, sent her from Spencer. Yeah, prepare yourself to feel some things, PLL fans.
Keegan Allen also took to Instagram to document the final day. “As I reflect on these years together in my dressing room on stage 6 on the WB lot (apparently James Dean once climbed above it and hid in the rafters) it is silent. I am unable to find the words to equate how tremendously emotional I feel. It is unlike anything I could ever explain. I will think about this often, and look back fondly on what we all shared together. I can’t even believe it. So grateful for the support of our fans and friends. I will miss this family so very much,” he captioned a photo of the cast.
Showrunner I. Marlene King also bid farewell to the show via a post on Cosmopolitan‘s Instagram: “Today marks the series wrap on ‘Pretty Little Liars,’ my home away from home for the last seven seasons. When I call ‘cut’ on the very last scene, all five #PLLs will be in the shot. Tears will be spilled, gifts will be exchanged, and final memories will be made. The most meaningful gift, however, is that we call ourselves ‘PLL Family’ because that is how much we mean to each other. We have created a worldwide family of fans who have come together to watch and celebrate the show. Friendships have been made and sealed over the love our passionate fans have for ‘PLL.’ In an age where technology often separates people, we used social media to bring them together. In season six, Spencer quoted A. A. Milne, author of ‘Winnie the Pooh’: ‘How lucky I am to have something that makes saying good-bye so hard.’ And those words have never spoken to me so loudly. Thank you to the cast, the crew, and all the fans who have kept Rosewood alive; we would be nowhere without you. And as this chapter ends, to my ‘PLL’ family all over the world, I won’t say good-bye, I’ll say, ‘See you soon, bitches.'”
To bid her final farewell to the show, Mitchell read a “Pretty Little Liars Farewell Letter” aloud in an almost 9-minute YouTube video posted Nov. 1. “It feels like the last day of school with just an extra bit of emptiness. Our show ending is such a weird, unique thing that I have only experienced from where you all are sitting: the viewer’s side,” she said fighting back tears. “I remember shows I watched growing up ending and all that came along with a series finale. Yet where I am seated now is so different.”
Although the show might have wrapped, its stars are forever bonded — with matching tattoos! Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale and Janel Parrish each shared a snap of their tattoos, which immortalized their characters. The girls spent some time with a tattoo artist, who inscribed each of their characters’ first initials on the inside of their pointer fingers to immortalize not only their longtime alter-egos, but also their iconic “shhhh” pose.
For the first time in seven years, Mitchell is without a job, but she seems to be enjoying it! On Nov. 17, the PLL star shared a snap of herself in her Calvin Klein underwear lounging in bed.
“First day off… #noworkynomovey,” she captioned the photo.
Pretty Little Liars returns to Freeform for its final season in April 2017.
