What is normal?

That’s one of the questions at the center of Netflix’s new series, Atypical, a coming-of-age story that follows 18-year-old Sam (Keir Gilchrist), who’s on the autism spectrum.

“I’m a weirdo — that’s what everyone says,” he says in the trailer. “Sometimes I don’t know what people mean when they say things. Girls don’t really notice me at all, and I’m not great at picking up signals.”

The new comedy also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh and Michael Rapaport as Sam’s parents, who must react when their son decides it’s time for him to get a girlfriend.

Atypical, created and written by comedy writer Robia Rashid, consists of eight half-hour episodes, which hit Netflix on August 11.
