Stars have long been known for saying, “Hi, mom!” on TV, but this Mother’s Day a few small-screen personalities’ mothers turned the tables.

The Today show crew thought they’d be sharing a special Mother’s Day brunch with a few parents who’d been hand-picked from Rockefeller Plaza, but the anchors were surprised when their own mothers showed up on set.

Savannah Guthrie began calling the names of the lucky “winners,” starting with “Sheila from Kansas” – and in waltzed the proud mother of Sheinelle Jones.

The mom-daughter duo embraced as the other anchors’ moms entered the room one by one.

“Get outta here!” Carson Daly said as he hugged his mother. “I’ve got a babysitter tonight!”

There were plenty of hugs and even some tears as Willie Geist, Hoda Kotb and Natalie Morales welcomed their moms.

Al Roker was joined on set by his sister.

Daly then took his mother over to the Orange Room where she stood by her son as he shared special Mother’s Day stories from viewers.

Some of the anchors gushed about the surprise on Twitter, with Jones writing, “Even moms need moms” next to a photo of herself and her embracing.

Today airs weekdays starting at 7 a.m. ET on NBC.
