At the end of Netflix’s first season of Master of None, Aziz Ansari’s Dev heads to Italy to work on his pasta-making skills after a break-up. Season 2 picks back up with a new love interest as Dev meets the dashing Francesca, played by Italian actress (and Amal Clooney look-alike!) Alessandra Mastronardi.
“I was a big fan of the first season because it was such a new way to approach comedy,” Mastronardi, who starred in Woody Allen’s To Rome With Love, tells PEOPLE of the big shoes to fill following the Emmy-winning first season. “It’s more intimate this season, I think. I hope it’s going to be better!”
With season 2 now available on Netflix, here’s five things to know about Mastronardi.
1. She enjoyed off-screen restaurant stops with foodie Ansari.
Outside of filming more chemistry-packed dinners, the duo made its rounds around Italy and New York. “Actually instead of me bringing Aziz around, it ended up him bringing me around!” Mastronardi says of eating with her on-screen love interest during the 10 days on location in Italy. The cuisine clearly rubbed off on him, as Ansari had told Vogue he would name his hypothetical food truck “Aziz’s Lasagna.”
2. She’s obsessed with Stranger Things.
It’s only fitting that the breakout Netflix actress has her own queue. “I love to binge everything. I’m obsessed with Stranger Things,” she says of the hotly anticipated Netflix series, returning for its own second season on Halloween. “And what about 13 Reasons Why? Or Grace and Frankie. Oh gosh,” the star says of her favorite shows of the moment.
3. This is her first comedic role.
“It was a big challenge,” she says of tackling her first comedic part. Fortunately, she said Wareheim and Ansari helped her, and she was “free to adjust some things.”
4. She’s “in love” with one of her costars.
Mastronardi gushes about co-star Wareheim, who at 6 ft., 6 in., is nicknamed “Big Bud” to Ansari’s “Little Bud.”
“I am in love with Eric. He can say anything and I just smile,” Mastronardi said. “He’s just so easy to work with and such a generous person.”
5. She didn’t snag any props from set.
Being the Italian ambassador for Chanel, she must be set in the wardrobe department, as she said she did not make away with any costume items.
