Lauren Graham: Melissa McCarthy Returning for Gilmore Girls Revival Was 'Icing on the Cake'

Updated

The countdown is on for the entire cast of Gilmore Girls to make their return to Stars Hollow — and for Lorelei and Sookie’s enviable friendship to hit TV screens once more!

On Nov. 25, audiences will watch as Lauren Graham (Lorelei Gilmore), Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore), Scott Patterson (Luke), Milo Ventimiglia (Jess Mariano), Jared Padalecki (Dean), Matt Czuchry (Logan), Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore) and the rest of the lovable cast reunite for Netflix’s revival.

But before Melissa McCarthy confirmed that she would return for the dramedy series earlier this year, fans wondered in worry if the Dragonfly Inn co-owner would be back in the kitchen whipping up her one-of-a-kind specialties. After much speculation swirled about her return to the dramedy series, the actress confirmed on Ellen in March that she would be back for the reboot in her comedic role as chef Sookie St. James.

“We’ve got the same dynamics, the same relationships, but eight years later. [We] know that they’re the same people, but they’ve evolved quite a bit and there are new things to play with in the scenes,” Bledel told Entertainment Tonight of returning to the WB lot with her costars to film the series.

“You know, the way these things come together is so circuitous and she’s so busy,” Graham said of McCarthy’s return. “Then we all were together on set and it was just great. [We] got to hang out after and it’s like [Alexis was] saying, you have a foundation with these people, so anything else is just icing on the cake.”

In the four-part revival, Rory returns to Stars Hollow for her grandfather Richard Gilmore’s (played by the late Edward Herrmann, who passed of brain cancer in 2014) funeral.

“Stages are the same, yet they’re different. We are the same, yet we’re different,” Graham told EW. “Now the challenge is to give people everything they want, which we hope is possible.”
