On Tuesday’s episode of the ABC morning talk show, Ripa, 45, took the desk with her guest co-host Morris Chestnut. At the very end of the show, Ripa turned to her audience to inform them Chestnut would be back on Wednesday – and teased a “big announcement” was also coming.
Speculation about who Ripa’s official next co-host will be has been swirling for months as the star has worked alongside a rotating line-up of guest co-hosts including Andy Cohen, Fred Savage, Anderson Cooper and more following Michael Strahan‘s departure in May.
Meanwhile, a source told PEOPLE Monday that Ripa, who was recently named an executive producer on the show, is closer than ever with her Live team.
“While it’s true that Michael leaving made for a much more grueling summer for everyone because of the additional work required to prep a new cohost every day, the whole staff has actually bonded over it,” said the insider. “The environment is really positive because of the work they’ve been doing.”
For his part, Strahan officially made his debut as a full-time co-anchor at the network’s Good Morning America on Tuesday as well, taking the morning desk with colleagues George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts.
Live with Kelly airs weekdays (check local listings).
