When you star on a show called The Affair, you can count on shooting a lot of sex scenes.

But that doesn’t make stripping down on set any easier, Joshua Jackson tells Ellen DeGeneres.

“It’s one thing for the guys, it’s awkward certainly, but it puts women in a particularly vulnerable space,” the actor says in Tuesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“And then there’s just the weirdness of a job, a profession, where you’re like, ‘Hi, my name’s Josh, we’re gonna get naked, then we’re gonna have sex, and we’re gonna talk about how it feels afterward. Is that cool? All right, great, let’s go,’ ” adds Jackson, laughing. “I mean, that’s what I do for a living. And then I go home and I’m like, ‘Oh, babe, I had a great day today. I had sex with two different women, and I felt like it went really well.’ ”

That lucky lady is actress Diane Kruger, 39, who Jackson has been dating for nine and a half years.

Jackson, 37, says the couple doesn’t watch the steamy drama together, though DeGeneres, 57, suggested the The Bridge star might want him to look “sexy.”

“I think she s a little conflicted on that,” Jackson quipped. “She’s okay if I look a little schlubby.”

All kidding aside, Jackson recently told PEOPLE their secret to maintaining a long-lasting relationship in Hollywood.

“We work at it,” he said. “I mean, it’s so banal. It’s not always easy, because nothing in life that’s worth doing is always easy. … understand at 37 better than I ever did at any other time in my life what the phrase like, ‘Love’s labor’ really means. It’s work. But it’s work that rewards itself many times over.”

The Affair airs Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.
