brightcove.createExperiences(); Joe Giudice plans to leave prison as soon as he possibly can.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey star reported to prison on Wednesday to serve 41 months at New Jersey’s Federal Correction Institute, Fort Dix, for fraud charges. But the reality star says he hopes to be out in as little as 18 months.
“I shouldn’t be in there longer than a year and a half,” Giudice tells PEOPLE. “You get good time, and now they have, with my kind of crime, [a system where] you are eligible for [sentence reduction] programs in there so I will do as many programs as I can.”
Giudice, 43, previously told PEOPLE that he plans to make the most of his prison time by focusing on a “rehabilitation” program for alcohol. That, he says, along with other programs would likely shorten his sentence.
“A lot of programs knock 10 days off a month. So, whatever programs are available,” he tells PEOPLE. “I don’t care if I have to take up to 24 hours, seven days a week, I will knock off as many things to pass time and get it over with and get out.”
He adds, “That’s what your goal is – to basically work on getting out.”
Giudice told PEOPLE he wishes he could have served his time first.
“I would have went in the beginning and I would have been almost already out, so it would have been better for me,” he said.
“I took full responsibility and tried to do what I could to keep her out of there,” he added. “We worked on it until the last day when she went in.”
