Joan Rivers would have been 82 on Monday, and her loved ones happily celebrated in honor of the late comedian’s legacy.

“We went out to dinner with some friends and toasted her,” daughter Melissa Rivers tells PEOPLE. They toasted the late comedian, saying, “We’re still here, we’re doing okay.”

Despite being gone, Melissa and her son, Cooper, are keeping Rivers’ legacy alive.

“We laugh everyday, and that’s the greatest testament to her legacy,” Melissa shares.

A big part of that legacy is Fashion Police, which Melissa reveals is “coming back in September.”

“We want to go back to the roots of it, of it being funny,” she adds.

Rivers’ daughter, 47, and grandson, 14, were on site at the God’s Love We Deliver’s dedication of the new Michael Kors building on Tuesday, where a Joan Rivers Bakery was created in her honor. Rivers supported the organization for more than 25 years.

“Yesterday was [Joan’s] birthday,” a proud Michael Kors tells PEOPLE, “so I kind of think of this as her birthday gift.”
