Jessica Jones leading lady Krysten Ritter says there’s nothing “sexy” about those super steamy scenes with Mike Colter.
“It’s so choreographed,” Ritter sad at Netflix’s Television Critics Association panel Sunday at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, California. “There’s really nothing sexy about it.”
However, the actress, who stars as the titular reluctant superhero/gritty private eye in the Netflix original series, says her costar Colter makes shooting love scenes between Jessica and Luke Cage easier.
“If you’re going to have to do a scene like that, it’s not terrible to do it with Mike. He’s all right looking,” she joked. “But he is also just a nice guy and always has your back. I always felt really safe and protected.”
Still, Ritter and Colter said their relationship resembles that of a brother and sister.
“We kind of pick on each other,” Ritter said. But Colter added that when they’re doing sex scenes, “we just try to keep the jokes to a minimum.”
“So when we’re not doing that, we’re joking,” he said. “When we’ve got to do that, we try to keep it to a minimum, because it’s a little interesting when you’re kind of half naked.”
Ritter previously told PEOPLE that she never imagined herself in a comic book adaptation.
“I never in a million years fancied myself playing a superhero,” the actress said. “I don’t look like superheroes that we’ve all seen in that female form with the outfit and the boobs and the big hair – that’s just not me.”
Netflix just renewed the show for season 2, and Jessica Jones will also team up with the streaming service’s other Marvel heroes, including Daredevil, for The Defenders, an Avengers-style mash-up.
