Jessa (Duggar) Seewald Speaks Out About Josh Duggar's Molestation and Cheating Scandals: 'You Just Have to Keep Your Focus and Trust God'

Posted on

While Jessa (Duggar) Seewald‘s family is still reeling from two shocking scandals in three months, the reality star is turning to her faith to get through the family’s difficult time.

“You just have to keep your focus and trust God,” Jessa, 22, told PEOPLE on Saturday at the Southern Women’s Show in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was promoting her book Growing Up Duggar: It’s all About Relationships.

Despite the fury of press surrounding her family since Josh admitted to past “wrongdoing” – which allegedly included molesting five underage girls – Jessa and her husband Ben Seewald say the key to dealing with media is simple.

“You have to stay true to yourself and your foundation,” said Ben, 20, during a Q&A session.

Jessa and her sister Jill (Duggar) Dillard came forward as Josh’s victims in an interview with Megan Kelly back in June, but they also have been his most vocal supporters.

While TLC may have pulled the plug on the Duggars’ hit show 19 Kids and Counting, the couple have not completely ruled out returning to reality TV.

“We live a peaceful, quiet life, but I wouldn’t rule it out if people were interested in our family,” said Ben when asked if they would raise their family on TV.

However, the couple does not have a TV of their own. “Ben has a lot of books, but we don’t have a TV, he reads the news on the laptop,” Jessa said.

Jessa will be back on the small screen on Sunday when she will appear alongside Jill in a TLC special about child sex abuse. But for now, the couple is focused on preparing for their first child due on their first wedding anniversary in November.

“The nursery is neutral,” Jessa, who is a little over 7-months pregnant, said. “Our house is tiny, the nursery will also be the guest room. We haven’t told anyone what we are doing in the nursery.”

The couple have opted to not reveal the sex of their baby ahead of its birth.

And as far as her favorite pregnancy foods, Jessa’s diet is pretty straight forward.

“I don’t crave anything weird,” she said. “You might want a smoothie or ice cream, but we usually share it.”

After the Q&A, Jessa and Ben stayed for over an hour to sign autographs for fans who flocked to the special event.

“I just had to come back today to give Jessa a hug,” Joli Anne Osgood of Concord, North Carolina, told PEOPLE about coming out to the festival for a second day.

Meanwhile, Josh’s scandal has not changed her mind about the Duggar family.

“We are all just peoople. We are human and we make mistakes.”

“My heart breaks for his family, they are paying the price for one person’s mistakes. I feel they are all being criticized and persecuted for what one of their kids did.”

She told PEOPLE she has been bullied for posting her support on the Duggars Facebook page. “Parents can do everything right and kids still make mistakes.”
