David Blaine is bringing the heat to primetime television!
In a brand new TV special, David Blaine Beyond Magic, the magician and illusionist takes to the streets in a cutting-edge hour full of thrill and death-defying stunts.
“It’s been three years in the making to be honest,” Blaine told PEOPLE of the ABC special. “The first part was learning how to do all sorts of new things that I’ve never done before. Things that were historical pieces of magic. Things that were legendary stories in magic where the actual performers took their secrets to the grave. You see the progress of learning these for the first time. You’ll see behind the scenes and how I work on the magic effect and then you see me go out into the real world and use these new pieces of magic. I look for amazing and truthful responses from people of all walks of life.”
The show, which Blaine said will be his final TV special before going on his first world tour, admitted that this will be different from any other special he’s done.
“This is my favorite special so far,” he said. “The fact that it’s the first time that there’s an actual story and a little bit of a reveal other than just me doing the magic as a mysterious strange character — you get a peek inside of my world. I’m also doing magic to many of my favorite entertainers in the world as well: Johnny Depp, Drake, Stephen Curry, Dave Chappelle, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jennifer Lawrence, David Beckham, John Travolta, Emma Stone and more. It’s a big list of lots of my favorite people. It was fun making.”
Though Blaine has performed in front of some of the world’s biggest celebs, he rarely ever gets nervous.
“That’s never been an issue of mine,” he explained. “I’m usually focused on doing what I’ve been working on. The energy is all focused on the performance of the effect.”
The best part about magic? The reactions.
“The drive is seeing people react in an unfiltered, honest way in an unusual situation,” said Blaine. “That’s one of the motivating factors.”
David Blaine Beyond Magic premieres Tuesday Nov. 15 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
