“It’s so sad,” said Sarah Drew at Monday’s PEOPLE/EW Upfronts Party at the High Line Hotel in New York City. “McDreamy’s such a part of our family, and he really created the energy of that show. We’re so sad to see him gone, but we’re really happy for Patrick, and we know that we don’t have to actually mourn him because we know that he’s actually still with us.”
Continued Drew, who plays Dr. April Kepner: “I’m really excited to see how Meredith is going to move past it and how she is going to grieve and become stronger as a result.”
Grey’s Jesse Williams said Dempsey and his character still “loom large” on set.
“We’ve only done maybe two episodes without him, and he very much feels kind of present, and looms large, as he should,” said Williams, who plays Dr. Jackson Avery. “So we’ll find out next year, I think.”
