Slater, who is engaged to fellow pro Sasha Farber, is partnered with NFL free agent Rashad Jennings, and is one of two couples that are on the show this season. Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are also engaged and just welcomed son, Shai, in January.
“I’m one half of two pairs of engaged couples. I think among the four of us, there are plenty of competitive vibes,” Slater, 28, admits to PEOPLE following Wednesday’s Good Morning America cast announcement.
Slater predicts her curiosity will pique when she and Farber, 33, return home from partner rehearsals.
“I don’t quite know how I feel about it with Sasha, like waking up and going off to work and being like ‘Hey! Did you have a good day? Go on, show me the videos,’ ” Slater jokes.
No matter the outcome, Slater says her relationship comes before the chase for the Mirrorball Trophy.
“I think honestly we’re on the same team,” she says. “It’s hard. I will never feel like I’m on a different team to Sasha, and I know I’m probably not supposed to say that, but it’s hard to feel that way!”
As for Jennings, he approves of the mixed competitive-loyal feelings his partner has.
“I love to hear that. I’m a fan of love, so to hear that is exciting,” Jennings, 31, tells PEOPLE. “I hope it is a competitive nature to where they can play with each other. She might come in one day and be like, ‘You know what, cook your own food!'”
To that, Slater agrees: “Yes!”
