The relationship between Donald Trump and Megyn Kelly has certainly been tense, but the pair put controversy aside to sit down for a one-on-one interview, during which both Kelly and Trump played nice.
Although the interview won’t air for another week, the Fox News anchor debuted a clip from the segment on Monday during an appearance on Live! With Kelly and Michael.
In the video, Kelly, 45, and Trump, 69 hash out their differences as she asks him if his long-standing animosity towards her was real or a campaign strategy.
“Well, I’m a real person,” Trump answered. “I have great respect for you that you were able to call me and say, ‘Let’s get together, let’s talk.’ To me, I would not have done that.”
The pair had been on a rocky path since the beginning of the campaign trail when Trump accused Kelly of being unfair to him at one of the early Republican debates. Afterwards, tension lingered between the two as the presidential hopeful slew of insults Kelly’s way and pulled out of a GOP debate that Kelly was moderating.
Fox released a statement in response saying Trump’s “vitriolic attacks against Megyn Kelly and his extreme, sick obsession with her is beneath the dignity of a presidential candidate.”
Despite firing back and calling her a “highly overrated reporter,” Trump agreed in April to a sit down to clear the air.
The full interview airs on Megyn Kelly Presents on May 17 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
