Another member of the Hough family will be missing when Dancing with the Stars returns later this month.
Reigning mirror-ball trophy champion Derek Hough will be sitting out season 22 of the series, PEOPLE has confirmed.
The fan favorite pro, 30, helped guide Bindi Irwin to victory last year, with Hough winning for a record sixth time.
“This entire experience has felt like the most-beautiful dance and Derek has inspired me every single day,” Irwin, 17, told reporters after their win, before turning to Hough to address him. “You believed in me the whole way and it’s thanks to you that we are here. You changed my life and I’m so happy.”
On Monday, Hough teased that he is headed to Broadway, where he will take over the role Gene Kelly made famous in Singin’ in the Rain.
The news Hough will be sitting out this season comes comes just weeks after Hough’s sister Julianne Hough exclusively told PEOPLE that she would not be returning to judge for season 22. The upcoming season of DWTS will feature judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tolioni and Len Goodman.
Season 22 of Dancing with the Stars is slated to premiere March 21 on ABC.
