Twelve celebrities. One disco ball trophy. After only four weeks of rehearsals, the sambas, salsas, foxtrots and quick steps kick into high gear Monday night on the season five premiere of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.
The night will come down to a battle of the women–and pop divas. A possible showdown between “Scary Spice” Mel B. and “Cheetah Girl” Sabrina Bryan promises not to disappoint viewers.
While those gals hope to tango to the top three, others admit to PEOPLE that they are okay with losing.
“I would love to go the whole way just because I said to them, ‘Look, I’ve got to lose some weight so I figure it’s better for you guys to pay for it than me,'” Marie Osmond told PEOPLE. Ditto says Beverly Hills, 90210 star Jennie Garth, a mother of three. “The baby weight from baby number three did not go away as quickly as the other two, so for me this is a great opportunity to get in good shape.
Dancing will also provide an opportunity to heal for billionaire businessman Mark Cuban, recovering from a recent hip replacement surgery, and actress Jane Seymour, who’s had recurring back problems most of her adult life.
“I’ve been doing lots of sit-ups and stretching and exercises that I know would be good for me,” said Seymour, who’s dedicating her performances to her mother in England. “It’s something I want to do for my mom, it’s something I want to do for me, it’s something I want to do for women my age, but also who’ve got some injuries.”
She added: “It’s kind of fun to see what you can do rather than just give up completely and say I can’t do any more. The only promise is that I will have a big smile on my face.”
