Cee Lo Green could face up to four years in prison after being charged Monday with giving a woman ecstasy.
The Voice mentor, 39, was charged with one felony count of furnishing a controlled substance to an unidentified 33-year-old woman in July 2012, according to a statement issued by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Green, whose real name is Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, was allegedly dining at a restaurant in downtown L.A. with the woman when he slipped her ecstasy, according to the statement. The two later went back to the woman’s hotel room.
Prosecutors declined to file a sexual assault charge against the TV personality, who was originally accused of rape of an intoxicated person. Prosecutors cited insufficient evidence and ask that his bail be set for $30,000.
Green’s attorney, Blair Berk, described the singer’s relationship with the woman as “consensual,” and with regard to the drug charge, stated that Green “will responsibly address that matter in a court of law but not comment on it further out of respect for the process.”
Calls to Green’s rep were not immediately returned.
