Who made the Top 13 on Thursday night’s American Idol?
Dim the lights
After the nationwide vote, America’s Top 5 Girls are Malaya Watson, Emily Piriz, Jessica Meuse, Majesty Rose and MK Nobilette.
And then the drama really kicked into high gear, as the judges chose five remaining contestants to sing live for one of three available wildcard spots.
C.J. Harris sang “Bring It On Home To Me,” which the judges agreed was not his best performance, with Harry Connick Jr. calling it “average” and Keith Urban saying it “drifted in and out emotionally.”
Jena Irene played keyboards and sang an original song, “Unbreakable Me,” a stunning performance Urban called “raw, vulnerable.”
Teen heartthrob Spencer Lloyd played guitar and sang an original song, “Ordinary Girl,” but Jennifer Lopez said, “I’m not sure that’s what I wanted America to see.”
Bria Anai, who told the audience when her name was called “Oh, y’all are gonna get a show!” sang “It’s A Man’s World,” but Connick didn’t like the show one bit.
“It was all over the place,” he said. “Very passionate, but you overshot the mark.”
Nurse Kristen O’Connor sang “Unconditionally,” which Urban called a “really good performance” although he urged her to change the key of the song.
Dim the lights again
The judges’ three wildcard selections were Jena Irene, C.J. Harris and Kristen O’Connor.
The Top 13 will now sing live for America’s vote on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET) on Fox.
