Following a shocking elimination last week, the American Idol top 10 eagerly awaited to hear their fate as another contestant was in risk of being sent home Thursday.

The top 10 had been predominately successful performing Billboard top 10 hits on Wednesday night’s performance show, but that did not save some of them from being in jeopardy of elimination.

Host Ryan Seacrest told seven of the contestants they would be moving straight through to next week but the bottom three – Dexter Roberts, MK Nobilette and Majesty Rose – were not as lucky.

After sweating it out on the bottom three stools, Rose and Roberts were informed they would be around for another week while Nobilette was tasked with singing for the judges’ save – Harry Connick, Jr., Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez‘s one chance of the season to keep a contestant around.

Nobilette sang John Legend’s “All of Me” but the performance didn’t move the judges enough to save her.

“It has to be unanimous and it is not unanimous and it breaks our heart but we have to say goodbye to you”, Connick Jr. said after the trio of judges deliberated.

“It sucks,” Roberts tells PEOPLE of Nobilette’s elimination. “She was always making us laugh and building us up backstage. I really thought they were going to use the save.”
