It was another typical day at West Beverly High on Tuesday’s episode of 90210. There were drugs, devious plotting and a mention of Dylan — and all before the opening credits!
English teacher Ryan Matthews (Ryan Eggold) was spurned again by Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) when Dylan called moments after Ryan asked Kelly for a date. He told her he was willing to wait for her, but Kelly told him not to. In a subtle dig, Ryan asked Kelly why Dylan called Brenda (Shannen Doherty) instead of her. Good question, Ryan.
It was the night of the annual Pacific Coast Fashion Show, and where there’s fashion, there’s drama. After spending an evening with her father and his mistress, Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) was determined to get her parents back together. She just had to get them in the same room and they would realize how much they love each other. After countless texts to her dad, he finally showed up but yelled at Naomi after discovering her scheme. Just when the night couldn’t get any worse, Naomi and Ethan (Dustin Milligan) broke up while sitting in his car.
Ryan and Brenda chaperoned the show. But this is Beverly Hills, so they carried drinks in their hands. At the bar, Brenda told Ryan that he dodged an “epic bullet” by not getting involved with Kelly. At the end of the night, Ryan offered Brenda a ride to wherever she was going. It looked like Kelly was right when she accused Brenda of returning to her old ways.
Annie (Shenae Grimes) was forced to babysit Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes) at the show while they helped Mrs. Wilson (Lori Loughlin), who was working at the show as a photographer. In a moment of niceness, Adrianna (who never looks sober) told Annie the truth about the night in Ty’s hotel room. In her best performance ever, Adrianna said she acted like they had slept together when Annie came to the door, but in fact, he was out looking for her. Annie stormed off. Ty (Adam Gregory) eventually showed up and Annie told him she just wanted to be friends because she wasn’t ready to give up her virginity just yet.
Meanwhile, 90210 went to another level. It got deep. It got serious. It approached the topic of race and not in that “in-a-very-special-episode” kind of way. When a lame talent scout at the show tried to convince Silver (Jessica Stroup) to go talk modeling in his Jacuzzi, Dixon (Tristan Wilds) took matters into his own hands — or fist, as the case may be. When the scout called Dixon a thug, Mrs. Wilson said he’s no thug, he’s my son. The talent scout then asked, “Who’s your baby’s daddy?” And … POW! Dixon landed a punch before the scout was ushered out of the fashion show.
Dixon was given the keys to Mercedes and took Silver home, who was greeted with luggage at the door. Kelly had decided to leave school for two weeks and visit Dylan in Wyoming because she needs to know whether they have a future together. You know what that means: Silver will have the entire house to herself. — Elaine Aradillas
