The Tony Awards had a special appearance of the presidential variety tonight — sort of.
Host Kevin Spacey showed off his spot-on impression of former president and frequent theatergoer Bill Clinton at the ceremony Sunday night. The actor poked fun at Hillary Clinton‘s shocking election loss and her recurring email scandal.
“I love the Tonys, I do. I love that House of Cards, too. I love me some good political theater,” Spacey said as Clinton to the delight of the crowd. “We’ve had some surprising winners, haven’t we? I’m not even talking about the Tony Awards.”
The actor then singled out Broadway’s newest darling Ben Platt for his captivating performance in best musical nominee Dear Evan Hansen. Referencing the show’s plot, Spacey-as-Clinton made a zinger about Hillary’s email troubles.
“We’ve had some exciting young performers this year,” he started before mentioning how Platt was named one of Time’s 100 most influential people. “Ben you know who you bumped off that list? My wife! Between you and me, you might be a better singer, but Hillary is much better at creating fake email accounts than you.”
“I’m gonna be in trouble when I get home,” he added over the crowd’s raucous laughter.
