Who better to dispense makeup advice than someone who’s gone from grunge to glam and back again? So goes the presumed logic behind Courtney Love’s role as a newly-minted online beauty expert. The always-entertaining star, who recently treated her Twitter followers to a five-part series of homemade makeup how-tos via TwitVid, shot an online beauty tutorial for Nylon, in which she preps for a night out with her pal Michael Stipe of R.E.M. Just as riveting for Love’s free-associating (and expletive-laced) commentary as it is for actually useful advice on how to apply eyeliner, the lively segment follows the singer’s transformation from bare-faced to dramatically done up with dramatic false lashes, lavender eyeshadow, diamond dust, rhinestones — the works! — a look inspired by everything from Gretchen Ryan paintings to Ziegfield girls. While you may not wind up cribbing many of her beauty tips on your next girls-night-out, Love, who performed with Hole at SXSW in Austin this past weekend, is definitely worth watching for her sheer unedited (and we mean unedited!) self.
