Chanel isn’t just the apex of Paris Fashion Week, it’s also the pinnacle of the whole Fashion Month experience — what all those weeks of Derek Blasberg swanning about with supermodels and street style stars posing in front of graffiti-covered walls are building up to. But even with such high expectations, Chanel manages to outdo itself every year — after all, if there’s one thing Chanel would never do, aside from making Crocs or putting anything on sale, it’s disappoint.
Apparently all the big Parisian houses this season are taking cues from their couturier history, considering on Monday Saint Laurent showed a collection that drew directly from the house’s origins, and on Tuesday Chanel followed (tweed) suit, transforming the Grand Palais into a giant design studio replete with gilded chairs in single-file lines. While the collection was full of nostalgic nods that would have made Coco feel right at home in the present day, there’s a few details about the show you may have missed.
1. Willow Smith was in attendance looking like a straight-up Chanel ninja … which makes sense, because she’s a new face of the brand.
Chanel loves a celebrity kid — just check out Lily-Rose Depp, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid (both of which are seen below) and all these front-row attendees. And now the daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith is following in their well-shod footsteps, according to a release from Chanel which says, simply, “Karl Lagerfeld has chosen Willow Smith as a new CHANEL ambassadress.”
