Allison Williams’s flawless hair, makeup and gown at the Golden Globes appeared to be carefully cultivated … but in reality, the whole look came together in mere hours.
“I found out I was going to the Globes four days before the event,” Williams admits to PEOPLE. “So my amazing stylist pulled some sort of magic rabbit out of her hat, and had a bunch of dresses waiting for me once I got to L.A.”
The Girls star says that when she saw the plunging black J. Mendel gown, “I knew it was it. It was elegant, simple — I was just drawn to it.” That simplicity made it perfect for Williams’s purpose: “It was Lena [Dunham]’s night, and I was there to celebrate her.”
Williams called upon makeup artist Julie Harris to make her face flawless — “We focused on the eye,” she says — and enjoyed feeling a bit star-struck as the night went on.
“I couldn’t believe I was on the carpet with these movie stars I’ve looked up to my entire life,” she says. “I just wanted to watch and observe, and tell them what their work has meant to me.”
She also experienced a red carpet right of passage. “My train got stepped on a whole bunch,” she jokes. “But it held up well.” Tell us: Did you love Williams’s Golden Globes gown?
