She’s been busy with baby Harper and is still recovering from a recent back injury, but Victoria Beckham showed no signs of slowing down Sunday as she presented her first-ever runway show at New York City Fashion Week. The collection contained lots of girlie dresses, plus several jackets with a sporty edge.

The star earned glowing remarks from fellow fashionistas; a major boon for the former Spice Girl, who’s worked hard to be taken seriously in the fashion world. “She is so good at the tailoring,”
Project Runway
judge and Marie Claire editor Nina Garcia told PEOPLE after the show. “This was a combination of hard and soft. She did some very beautifully tailored pieces and she experimented with pleating. Really, really gorgeous.”

In terms of the color palette and materials, Garcia thought Beckham’s choices were quite sophisticated. “It was very edgy, very Victoria,” she said. “I could see her wearing any one of these, and I can see many women obsessed with this collection because it’s feminine and very flattering.”

Stylist Brad Goreski agreed. “She surprised me with body-conscious on the top and then these gorgeous pleated chiffon skirts,” he shared. “It was very clean and very minimal. And her bags are incredible — so amazing.”

Though the show is over, Beckham is still hard at work designing a new dress line for spring/summer 2012, called Victoria by Victoria Beckham. “These are the kind of dresses I’ve been searching for,” Beckham told WWD in July. “The perfect little summer dress, something that was fun … something that was easy to wear, something that would take you from day through the night.”
