Valentine's Day Gift Guide: What We're Hoping to Get (Hint, Hint)

Posted on

We’ve already spilled the beans on the Valentine’s gifts we’re giving to the girls and guys on our “love list.” Now we want to make sure they have plenty of time to shop for gifts as equally amazing as the ones we picked out for them. Below, see four foolproof gifts topping the lists of our editors. And, as always, feel free to leave this page open on your significant other’s laptop. By accident, of course.

Whitney Little, Associate Producer: Some people may think bath and body products are slightly boring gifts, but those people haven’t tried Rituals, my new favorite line of products. The brand is huge in Europe, and it recently became available in the U.S. (I’ve been living at their Manhattan storefront ever since it opened, but the goods are also available at

The products are high-end, the scents are really luxurious, and the best part: It’s all affordable! So my boyfriend can get me the line’s entire Ayurveda collection (the dark pink packaging and rich scent is super romantic) without breaking the bank.

Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: If at first you don’t receive, ask, ask again. Isn’t that how the saying goes? Typically I don’t expect much for Valentine’s Day (I’m happy with a card and one of those cheesy heart-shaped boxes of chocolate), but this year is different.

I put this Robindra Unsworth necklace on my holiday wish list, and as you may have guessed, my boyfriend was less than thrilled at the idea of buying me such an expensive piece of jewelry. Maybe he’ll reconsider this time around, especially when I remind him that it could be worse — I could be asking for an even more expensive piece of jewelry that goes on a very important finger.

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: There are a few gifts I’d really love this Valentine’s Day (like a Vita Fede bracelet or a Napa spa trip), but this year, our celebration of other peoples’ romance (11 cross-country weddings in all) means that our own love story is happening on a budget. Like, takeout Chinese and Netflix budget.

Luckily, there is a way for my husband to show me that he really loves me without spending a fortune: by enabling my decorative tray addiction. I keep bringing them home and he keeps looking at them in disbelief. “Why do you need another tray?” he asks. Well, this Artsy Modern one is cool, graphic, goes with everything and costs $32, so uh, why not? Sometimes, the definition of love is “Being blind to your spouse’s insanity.” And if it’s really a problem, I’ll take that Napa spa trip, thanks.

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: My ideal Valentine’s Day involves a home-cooked meal (something of the carby, Italian variety) and a rom-com. Yes, I probably just described 95% of the female population. Point is, I’m not one to make a big list of V-Day presents. But this year I not-so-subtly G-chatted my fiancé with a link to this robe. It’s not that I want it because I think you have to celebrate the holiday with lingerie. I really need a new robe, and Alex suggested Journelle since the brand’s known for their super-soft luxe wraps. Okay, and I do like that it’s a little bit sexy.
