Thandie Newton Believes Foot Blisters Are a Good Thing — Really

Lots of stars seem to leave events with pain-causing heels in hand, but that will never be the case with Thandie Newton.

“The thing about blisters is that, if you get a blister it’s good,” the actress told PEOPLE recently at the Cinema for Peace Foundation gala in Beverly Hills. “The skin in that area is going to toughen up, so it actually means your feet have been wounded and healed to wear those specific shoes.”

Wounded and healed — and wounded for heels. “You’ve actually got a callus on the spot where those shoes are always going to rub,” she explained of breaking in new kicks. “So I always welcome the blister — it’s like the labor for birth.”

But even Newton’s husband, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel writer Ol Parker, takes issue with her theory.

“He helps me [get dressed],” she shared. “I’ll hold up two pairs of shoes and ask, ‘Which ones?’ and he’ll say, ‘The ones that didn’t give you the blister, Thandie.'” Her dirty little secret? “And then I’ll go for the other ones!” Someone get this woman a foot rub, stat! Tell us: Do you tolerate painful shoes, or take them off?
