SPARKLE & FADE
When you’ve got an exaggerated hourglass figure like Sofia’s, too much glitz may invoke images of a showgirl. She avoids that problem with a Monique Lhuillier sequined dress that balances a tight bodice with a modest length. Plus, the ombré in dark hues is less flashy than gold glitter.

Though she knows the power of a skintight silhouette, Sofia shows off her curves in less obvious ways too. The white dress she wore to a Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony skimmed her physique while the draping highlighted standout areas and the contrasting belt showed off her waist.

Sofia is well aware that you don’t actually have to reveal a lot of skin to look sexy. The actress selects skintight leather leggings and a sheer top to highlight her assets. But she does it in a classy way, selecting a shirt that’s not too tight and wearing it over a full coverage bra.

Sometimes the sexiest outfits leave everything to the imagination. Case in point: Sofia’s clingy dip-dyed maxi dress, which doesn’t have the same over-the-top sex appeal as some of her other formfitting sheaths, but will still have guys staring.

SHORE IS NICE
Not only is Sofia a pro at picking suits that flatter her figure (see: plenty of support on top paired with a skimpy bottom), she also accessorizes to maximize impact. A sheer cover-up, leg-lengthening nude wedges and gold jewels all add up to an outfit that ensures you’ll be noticed even on a crowded beach.

There’s a reason the star favors the mermaid silhouette for big events: the cut plays up what she’s been blessed with and emphasizes her itty bitty waist. Ten months after she wore this striking coral Vera Wang number paired with giant Lorraine Schwartz emerald earrings to the Emmy Awards, we’re still talking about this dress.

One jewel tone that the actress frequently returns to is this rich sapphire shade, seen on this Lela Rose sheath. Take a cue from Sofia when picking day dresses; trendy trapeze shapes can make curvy girls look heavier than they are, so stick to structured, fitted looks with V-necks.

LOVE THE FLOWER, GIRL
Though Sofia knows what she likes (and sticks to it!), she took a risk that paid off at the 2011 Met Gala in a floral-print Carolina Herrera gown. It’s not her traditional curve-flaunting mermaid gown, but its wide waistband and color-blocking all serve to draw the eyes to her enviable figure.

We don’t know how she possibly expected to hail a cab when her outfit was so traffic-stopping. Memorize this formula: tight colorful jeans + form-fitting tank + animal-print platforms + sexy statement jewels = the hottest running-errands-outfit ever.

Even when she does casual, Sofia still follows the cardinal rules of dressing a curvy figure: she doesn’t let her maxi overwhelm her petite, voluptuous shape thanks to a defined waist, and she adds a little visual interest with ruffles and gems to spice up the simple style.
