Sienna Miller Brings Her Signature Style to Ralph Lauren's Front Row: 'I Like Classic, Tailored Clothes'

Posted on

Bookended by fashion house scion David Lauren and Vogue‘s Anna Wintour, Sienna Miller was the total “it” girl at Ralph Lauren’s fall 2016 show Thursday.

The actress wore a cutout black dress, matching brogues and a brick-red pout for her NYFW cameo. And luckily PeopleStyle caught up with Miller to get all the details on her look.

As Ralph and his wife Ricky Lauren greeted friends and fashion editors after the show, Miller chatted with PeopleStyle backstage.

How did she pick out what to wear? “I had a fitting and tried on a few different things,” she shared. “And this just felt nice. Yes, classic. Simple. Typical Ralph Lauren-y.”

Miller, one of People’s Best Dressed stars of 2015, also spilled on her favorite runway looks from the new collection.

“I liked the black velvet jumpsuit, and the red spaghetti strap low-V [dress],” she said. “And there was a ruffle dress, also black velvet, that was amazing. And all the tweeds I loved.”

The actress loves to wear Ralph Lauren on the carpet, most recently showing up to the 2015 amfAR Gala in Cannes in a slinky, liquid silver design (one of the reasons she ended up on our best dressed list).

“Last year, I was on the jury of Cannes [Film Festival] and I wore a silver metallic spaghetti strap — quite ’90s-silhouette-dress — that they [Ralph Lauren] designed, and it was one of my favorite things I’ve ever worn,” she said. “I also used to save up for Double RL belts when I was younger. So I have a collection of beautiful beaten-up Navajo leather things.”

What else would one find hoarded in Miller’s closet? “Um, shoes,” she answered. “I have shoes I’ll never wear, but which I just love to be around. I have a problem with shoes.”

The star looks just as good off the red carpet, as she does on, so we had to also ask about her cool-girl street style aesthetic.

“I think it really changes on my mood,” she said of her style. “But I am much more into structure and tailoring than I used to [be] and simplicity. I don’t really have the time to put too much time into accessorizing like I used to. So I just like beautiful classic tailored clothes that make you look great. And then I’ll chuck on a bit of old jewelry or something to make it my own.”

Miller also plans to save “everything” in her wardrobe for her daughter, Marlowe (who we’re now referring to as the luckiest toddler on the planet).

Unfortunately, all her clothes might not make it. “I have moths, so we’ll see what survives,” she admitted. “The Navajo belts will survive. They’ve survived this far.”

Miller’s stylist Kate Young (who also works with Natalie Portman, Dakota Johnson, Selena Gomez and Emilia Clarke just to name a few) also attended the show, and opened up to PeopleStyle about her relationship with her client.

“It’s collaborative,” Young shared of working with Miller. “We have a really fun time doing it. I tend to just pick clothes that I think will look good on her. And then we just try things on and gossip and chat and drink coffee and have a good time. She has really good personal taste.”

The silver sequin Ralph Lauren Collection dress Miller wore to Cannes also happens to be Young’s favorite look on the star, who seems to be leaving her old boho ways of dressing behind her.

“I’ve only been working with her two years. I never did the boho,” Young said. “But I did used to copy her at home. I bought pirate boots because I liked them on her.”

Young added that Miller’s bubbly personality is another reason she can pull off any look. “There are lots of models who physically look good in everything. But they don’t have that kind of amazing light where you just want to be around them and look like them. I’ve never seen her look bad.”

Although Miller isn’t attending the Oscars this year, Young will be dressing one of her celebrity clients for the event.

“I think the thing about Oscar fashion is that those dresses need to be super iconic,” she shared of finding the perfect gown for her client. “They live for a long time. You can conjure up a whole year by mentioning someone’s dress. People remember them. It really triggers something. It’s important to find a dress that isn’t forgettable. And then, sometimes, something that’s a little bit uncomfortable.”
