Shop For a Cause: Designers Create Fashionable Items for Japan Relief Efforts

Tory Burch, Rebecca Minkoff, Kate Spade, Alexis Bittar and a slew of other designers are taking a philanthropic stand, helping to aid tsunami and earthquake victims in Japan through sales of select items. Fashionable and charitable purchases — what could be better?


Kate Spade New York created a new tote (above) that reads “Kate Spade New York Supports Japan.” The $18 bag will be available online beginning Wednesday, and in stores starting Friday. All proceeds will benefit the Japanese Red Cross Society.


Anna Sui’s Japan Relief T-shirt, which says “We’re All In This Together,” is available in purple for women (above) and black for men. Proceeds from the $20 top will be donated to various relief funds.

From now until March 27, a portion of all sales made on will be donated to the American Red Cross.


Celeb-loved jewelry line RichRocks is offering 20% of all proceeds from the sale of their double disc white-plated earrings ($70) to the American Red Cross and related Pacific tsunami relief efforts.


Karmaloop is taking pre-orders for the site’s $20 Rising Sun T-shirt; 100% of the proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross’ disaster relief fund.


Joan Hornig Jewelry created a special sterling silver pendant in response to the tragedy, and will donate 100 percent of proceeds to the aiding charity of your choice. The price, $60.80, reflects the geography of the quake: six miles inland, 80 miles from the eastern coast of Japan.


Tory Burch has designed a special edition Japan Relief T-shirt; 100% of the proceeds from sales of the $29 top will go to the American Red Cross through September 15. It’s available through the weekend on Rue La La, too.


Rebecca Minkoff is donating is $100 for every red handbag purchased on her site to the American Red Cross.


Temptu is donating $100 from every AIRbrush MakeUp System sale to relief efforts.


Vita Fede is offering 25% off the entire website, with a portion of all sales going to the American Red Cross.


Buy anything on jeweler Alexis Bittar‘s web site from March 21-25 and he will donate all the proceeds to the Catholic Relief Fund.


Lady Gaga is using her celebrity status for good: the singer has created a $5 “We Pray For Japan” wristband, available for purchase on her website, and 100% of the proceeds go directly to the relief effort. (She’s already raised more than $250,000!)
