You’ve drooled over the gorgeous on-set photos and watched the teasers a million times, and now the wait is over. The much-anticipated Dolce & Gabbana short film featuring Scarlett Johansson and Matthew McConaughey and directed by Martin Scorsese, has been released — and we’re thrilled to host its exclusive debut. Titled Street of Dreams, the black-and-white spot for the label’s new scent “The One” marks the first time Johansson and McConaughey have worked together onscreen. They star as ex-lovers who are reunited after years apart. The backdrop for this romantic rendezvous? New York City on a Sunday morning, a personal favorite location of Scorsese. “I love those streets, they’re part of me because that’s where I grew up,” he says.
Johansson plays the “aspiring beautiful young star looking for love,” and McConaughey is cast as a “magnetic screen icon with a trail of paparazzi in his wake.” (Yep, he’s basically playing himself. But he’s so good at it!)
The designers could not be happier with the casting. “Scarlett is the embodiment of ‘The One’ woman,” Domenico Dolce shares in a press release. “She lives and breathes every womanly nuance. She exudes desire and innocence. She is both sobriety and sensuality. There is innocence in her eyes yet her smile is laced with mischief. She is a talented actress and a beautiful woman.”
As for McConaughey, Stefano Gabbana expresses a similar sentiment: “Matthew is the ultimate charmer. He is an outstanding actor, and a very handsome man whose good looks seem to be increasing with age. And he has also been blessed with style, not to mention a clever wit and boundless charisma. There could be no other face for ‘The One for Men.'”
