If anyone knows shoes, it’s Carrie Bradshaw. And Sarah Jessica Parker learned a lot while playing the shopaholic Sex and the City character for six seasons and two movies: The actress’s footwear line, SJP Shoes, launches at Nordstrom Friday, and with shoes priced between $195 and $495, Parker has taken criticism for calling her line affordable. But she wants to let it be known that her shoes are cost-effective given their high quality.
“All these shoes were made in Italy, [by a] third-, fourth-generation Tuscan shoemaker. That means that we’re not able to give a shoe for $99,” Parker explained on Tuesday’s Opening Bell with Maria Bartiromo on FOX. “So while not as affordable to some as I would like them to be, there is a large group of people that can now reach out and have a shoe like this that’s, you know, in my opinion, beautifully made, lasts a lifetime, will look good in their closet three and four years from now.”
And of course, compared to the thousand-dollar Manolo Blahnik heels Carrie lined her closet with, SJP Collection does sound like bang for your buck.
Parker also revealed that her fashionista alter ego played a part in her designs — she even named one style “the Carrie.”
“We have it in nude and we have it in a black nappa as well,” she said, showing off the chic shoe on her own foot. “And then lots of colors to come. This will be an essential, so it’ll always be available.”
As for Parker’s trend forecast? Think blue or green instead of black and beige as wardrobe basics.
“This idea of colors as neutrals, which I think women have been kind of dancing around but slightly terrified to make that last step,” she said. “Am I any less capable in a navy shoe than I would be in a black one? No. Is asparagus a neutral? Absolutely. It’s just sort of — kind of adjusting your brain a little bit.”
