SAG Awards 2016: Playful Ponytails Make Their Mark on the Red Carpet

Award show season typically brings bouncy blowouts, glossy waves and intricate updos to the red carpet. And on Saturday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, we certainly saw all three, but also a collection of an unexpected hairstyle: playful ponytails! Below, we’ve highlighted four of our favorites, as seen on Rooney Mara, Sophie Turner, Kristen Wiig and Amanda Peet.

For tonight’s star-studded event, Mara turned to her mane man, celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel, for a sleek two-part ponytail to pair with her sexy, plunging Valentino gown (a look she matched with her sister, Kate!).

“A modern take on the classic ponytail for the one and only #rooneymara for the #sagawards tonight. #doubleponytail #ponytail #sleek #hairbyadir,” Adir said of the inspiration behind the brushed-back updo on Instagram.

Turner turned up the va-va-volume with her take on the playful updo, opting for teased tresses at the crown and mega body in the back. And as an added bonus, she wrapped a strand of her own hair around the base of the pony, creating one chic hairstyle.

To pair with her strapless white-and-black Roland Mouret jumpsuit, Wiig pulled her hair back into a sleek ponytail with mega volume at the crown, where her hairstylist teased the strands to stand, and added a few face-framing pieces to create a not-so-polished effect.

And lastly, Peet joined fellow ponytail pals with her take on the hairstyle: a center-parted, slightly messy updo. She paired the look with a gorgeous white gown and oversize dazzling hoop earrings.
